Hiking

The Adirondacks offer numerous trails for all skill levels, from easy walks to challenging mountain summits. Popular hikes include Mount Marcy, the highest peak in New York, and the family-friendly Cascade Mountain.

Camping

With both public and private campgrounds, the Adirondacks offer a great camping experience, whether you prefer a tent, an RV, or even a backcountry experience.

Biking

There are numerous biking trails throughout the Adirondacks, suitable for road bikes, mountain bikes, and casual family riding. The region’s varied terrain offers something for every level of cyclist.

Boating & Kayaking

With over 3,000 lakes and ponds, and 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, the region is perfect for water activities. Canoeing and kayaking are particularly popular in places like Lake Placid and the Saranac River.

Wildlife Watching

The region's vast wilderness is home to an array of wildlife, including moose, black bears, and countless bird species. The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehabilitation Center is a great place for wildlife encounters.

Rock Climbing

The Adirondacks have some of the best rock climbing in the East, with famous spots like the Shawangunks, offering routes for beginners and experienced climbers alike.

Skiing & Snowboarding

In the winter, the mountains transform into a playground for skiing and snowboarding. Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, host of the 1980 Winter Olympics, is one of the most famous destinations.

Nightlife

Towns like Lake Placid and Saranac Lake offer a variety of bars, pubs, and  live music events, especially during tourist seasons.

 

Cultural Attractions

Apart from natural beauty, the region also boasts cultural attractions like the Adirondack Experience museum in Blue Mountain Lake, showcasing the area’s history and culture. Other museums like the Wild Center in Tupper Lake and the Lake Placid Olympic Museum offer insights into the natural history and Olympic heritage of the area.
